Senator Therese Murray President of the Massachusetts Senate will receive the Tip O’Neill Irish Diaspora award at a ceremony in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel at 7 o’clock tonight.
President Michael D Higgins will present Senator Murray with the Tip O’Neill Irish Diaspora Award, which recognises the achievements of the recipient and their commitment to Ireland and to Irish people living abroad.
Murray proving herself a worthy recipient of the award has successfully strengthened the economic ties with the island of Ireland, particularly focusing on the Northwest. Through her leadership and guidance, a number of research alliances have been formed between the University of Massachusetts system and Irish Universities. Additionally, Murray has led multiple trade missions and has hosted delegations which have led to business development opportunities on both sides of the Atlantic.
This morning Senator Murray launched M2D2 NorthWest which is a co-operative venture between Letterkenny Institute of Technology and the University of Massachusetts (Massachusetts Medical Device Development Centre) at the Co-Lab Centre in Letterkenny this morning.0
